The White House Office of Social Innovation
The White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation will coordinate efforts to enlist all Americans –individuals, non-profits, social entrepreneurs, corporations and foundations –in solving our great challenges. It will:
• Catalyze partnerships between the government, nonprofits, businesses and philanthropists
• Identify and support the rigorous evaluation and scaling of innovative ideas that are transforming communities
• Support greater civic participation through new media tools
• Promote national service.
The Social Innovation Fund (SIF) will work with the grantmaking community to fund promising nonprofits that have demonstrated outcomes. It will provide nonprofits with growth funding and other support to scale and spread their impact. SIF was authorized by the Kennedy Serve America Act, signed by the President in April 2009. Most of the funds will be awarded to intermediary grantmaking institutions through a competitive, peer-reviewed process.
